Pathfinder/Dorothy Ann Arrive in Menominee

Early in the evening of May 23, 2009, the tug & barge unit arrived at Menominee Paper Co. The vessel was carrying a load of coal, part of which had been unloaded in Green Bay, WI earlier in the day. This was an unusual trip for this vessel, as, in the past, Menominee Paper Company got its coal loads delivered by ships of the Lower Lakes Transportation Co., and before that USS Great Lakes Fleet. This vessel is part of the Interlake Steamship Co. fleet. With the economy in such bad shape, many ships have not even sailed yet this year, and some may not sail at all. Competition is great for handling loads, and Interlake obviously won this one. The last time this vessel was in Menominee was during winter lay-up of 1998-1999 when the cargo holds were rebuilt to make the vessel more versatile, and capable of unloading up to 6000 tons of cargo per hour!
