USCG (GLIB) Mackinaw Visits Menominee on Aug. 21

On Saturday, Aug. 21, the USCG Mackinaw entered the Menominee River around 4 p.m. and docked at the Menominee North Pier Lighthouse pier. The ship proceeded up the river and came to a stop in the middle of the channel. Then, a group of spectators was treated to some cool ship-handling when, using only their bow and stern thrusters, the ship moved sideways all the way into the pier. The ship made this stop-over after spending two months in Sturgeon Bay, WI (at Bay Shipbuilding), where the ship's hull was sand-blasted and completely repainted. The vessel is on its way back to its home port of Cheboygan, MI; and will use the stop-over for some training and, as a crewmember said, "for a change of scenery." The ship is NOT open for tours on this trip, as it has been on a couple previous ocassions.
