Image to the right: The BBC Arizona arrived off Menominee with KK Integrated Logistics' first load of wind turbine towers on May 14; unfortunately, they were destined to wait out in the bay of Green Bay until May 17 before the weather settled down and they could enter port with the aid of the Selvick tugs Jimmy L and William C. Selvick.

Windmill Parts Shipped To Menominee

Since August 2007, many wind turbine (windmill) parts have been shipped into KK Integrated Logistics (none in 2009) here in Menominee, MI. Mr. Steve Hinkley was kind enough to allow me to use some of his photos to show how all of these parts fit together to make a wind turbine.

3rd year of "Warning To Boaters" sign - In April 2010 (Click Here to see a similar warning posted by Marinette County Sheriff Dept.), in an attempt to bring safety awareness to fishing boats which, too many times, fail to move out of the way of a moving ship in a timely fashion, the Menominee County Sheriff Dept. Marine Patrol and their counterparts in Marinette again put out these signs at all local area boat launches on the Lower Menominee River. Too many times I have watched boaters wait until the last possible moment to move out of the way of a ship entering or departing our port. Three years ago, as a ship was backing out of the Menominee River, I was at the west end of the lighthouse pier when the captain asked if I could run out ahead of him and shoo the fishing boats out of his way! Unfortunately, his ship was moving faster than I could; I told him that I would like to help, but that he would have to use his horn. Hopefully these signs will raise awareness of the dangers of such actions. Click photo to enlarge.

2011 Shipping Season Photos:

Sunday afternoon saw the tug & barge arrive at KK Integrated Logistics to load rock for a lower Lake Michigan project. Light ice cover in the Menominee River barely slowed the duo down as they entered the inner harbor to turn around prior to backing through the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge on their way up-river to KK Integrated Logistics to pick up the load.

Oh! What A Difference A Day Makes!

The following two photos were taken about 24 hours apart on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3. They depict the bay of Green Bay looking across Government Pier in Marinette, WI out toward Green Island.

Jan. 2 - Bay is open
Jan. 3 - Bay is mostly frozen over with what looks like a patch of open water out near Green Island
Jan. 4 - Here is the same photo with a blue sky, which better shows the ice field I wanted to show in the last photo. Brrr!
Jan. 4 - Afternoon view of the frozen Menominee River between the lighthouse pier and Government Pier; remember that there was a vessel that passed through here yesterday morning!

Saturday afternoon saw the tug & barge arrive at KK Integrated Logistics. The following two-part slideshow begins with their arrival in the bay of Green Bay around noontime. They were led down the bay by Basic Marine's tug, Erika Kobasic. With the tug & barge stopped in the ice, the Erika Kobasic proceeded to carve a turning basin out of 6 - 8 inch thick ice in the bay off the lighthouse. As the tug & barge began to turn around, the Erika Kobasic headed up-river into the inner harbor to break a track in the ice. They then headed back out to assist the tug & barge before heading back up the Menominee River, through the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge, and up to KK Integrated Logistics, where they broke up (3 - 4 inch thick) ice from mid-river all the way in to the dock. From their arrival in the bay off Menominee until they were finally docked, the James L. Kuber/Victory took nearly 5 hours.

KK Integrated Shipping has announced the sale of the Lewis J. Kuber and the James L. Kuber

February 11th, 2011

KK Integrated Shipping has announced the sale of the Lewis J. Kuber (and tug, Olive L. Moore) and the James L. Kuber (and tug, Victory) to Rand Logistics Inc. the parent company of Lower Lakes Towing LLC. and Grand River Navigation. KKIS purchased the two ships from the former Oglebay Norton Company and modified them to Integrated Tug Barges during 2006 and 2007. The 21,500 ton and 25,500 ton vessels, respectively, have sailed for the past three seasons hauling primarily stone from the Michigan quarries to various destinations on Lakes Huron, Erie and Michigan.

Victory Goes To Escanaba On March 15

The tug, Erika Kobasic, arrived in Menominee in the wee hours of March 15. The tug came down from Escanaba, MI to assist the tug, Victory, up to Escanaba where it will be dry-docked prior to going back into service as part of the tug/barge unit, James L. Kuber/Victory. Since the sale of the two KK Integrated Logistics tug & barge units (Lewis J. Kuber/Olive L. Moore being the other), to Lower Lakes Transportation (Rand Logistics), the only noticeable change to any of the vessels is the change of home port from "Menominee, MI" to "Cleveland, OH" on the Victory. The Victory, using its own power, followed the Erika Kobasic up to Escanaba, where they will arrive early Tuesday evening. Oddly, the tow first headed in a southerly direction after passing Menominee North Pier Lighthouse before eventually heading north to Escanaba. (The first 11 photos are from KK Integrated Logistics dock)

Victory - A view from Red Arrow Park NOTE: The reason the two tugs went that far south before turning north toward Escanaba is that the USCG Katmai Bay had broken a path through the ice last month when the tugs, Jimmy L, Susan L, John M. Selvick, and Mary E. Hannah, came to Menominee to do some shifting of the vessels moored at KK Integrated Logistics. The USCG Katmai Bay had gone all the way down the Bay of Green Bay from its northern entrance (off Door County) to Sturgeon Bay to assist the 4 tugs. Rather than fight their way through the ice coming down from Escanaba, the Erika Kobasic went further south and followed the old track into Menominee; then they escorted the tug, Victory, back up to Escanaba following the same track. I want to thank my friend, Scott Best, for the information on what looked like a strange move.

Victory in Escanaba, MI on April 7

The tug, Victory, which will again be mated with the barge, James L. Kuber, looks to be about ready to return to Menominee. The Victory has been in dry-dock for unspecified repairs in Escanaba, MI since March 15. On Wednesday afternoon, the tug was out of the dry-dock and tied up alongside Basic Marine's new-build crane-barge, BMI 192. The tug should be returning to Menominee soon to pick up its barge. The Victory, formerly owned by KK Integrated Shipping, is now owned by Lower Lakes Transportation, but has not had its stack painted in Lower Lakes' colors just yet as its (tug) fleetmate, Olive L. Moore, did earlier this week. As a side note, the barge, James L. Kuber was moved down the dock to the space recently occupied by the (barge) fleetmate, Lewis J. Kuber.

Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted open the 2011-2012 Menominee & Marinette Shipping Season

Our last commercial vessel of the 2010-2011 Shipping Season also became Menominee & Marinette's first commercial visitor of the 2011-2012 Shipping Season when the tug & barge arrived at Marinette Fuel & Dock Co. with a load of pig iron in the early evening hours of April 9. The duo was led down the bay of Green Bay by the Basic Marine tug, Erika Kobasic, from "Death's Door" to Marinette. The USCG Katmai Bay joined the convoy for a while as they proceeded down the bay. Ice did not appear to be a problem for the vessels.

James L. Kuber/Victory Depart Winter Lay-Up From KK Integrated Logistics On "Maiden Voyage" For Lower Lakes Transportation

The tug, Victory, arrived back in Menominee mid-morning on Tuesday after spending nearly a month up in Escanaba, MI undergoing unspecified repairs. Upon returning to the KK Integrated Logistics dock, the tug immediately headed into the "notch" of the barge, James L. Kuber, which had been "ballasted down" over the weekend in preparation for today's departure. During the day, the stylized "KK" which had adorned the stacks of the tug for the past 3+ years was painted out; however, unlike their fleetmate tug, Olive L. Moore, which had its stack painted in Lower Lakes' colors before departing winter lay-up last week; the stacks of the Victory simply remained painted in black & white with red trim. Unlike last week's departure of the Lewis J. Kuber/Olive L. Moore, which left at night into a bay full of ice; the James L. Kuber/Victory entered open water in the bay once they passed Menominee North Pier Lighthouse on their way to Calcite, MI (Rogers City) for a load of stone.

Click Here to view the story and photos of the Victory's morning arrival, and the duo's early evening departure.

Maineborg Departs To Dump Ballast Water On April 22

The Maineborg Departed KK Integrated Logistics on Friday at 3:30 p.m. with the assistance of the Selvick Marine tug, Jimmy L, which came up from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The Menominee County Sheriff Dept. Marine Patrol was also on hand to escort the pair out of the Menominee River. At this time of year, the fishermen come out in sometimes large numbers fishing mainly for walleye in the river; unfortunately, they sometimes don't pay attention to other traffic in the river, like a tug and a large ship bearing down on them! Too many times I have watched them in their fishing boats waiting until the last possible moment to give up their fishing spot and move out of the way of a moving ship. Today that was not a problem, as the Sheriff Dept. Marine Patrol boat did a GREAT JOB as they "ran point" for the tug and ship. The ship is partially loaded with its cargo of pulp, and needs to drop the ballast water with which they were loaded for their trip up the Great Lakes. Ballast water lowers the ship in the water for a smoother ride and better handling when they are coming in empty to load; when the ship is partially loaded, the ship needs to dump that ballast water in order to carry its full load of cargo. The ship will spend the night out in the bay of Green Bay and will return at daybreak on Staurday.

Maineborg Departs On April 24

The Maineborg departed KK Integrated Logistics on Easter Sunday at 11:30 a.m. with the assistance of the Selvick Marine tug, Jimmy L, which came up from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin for the third time in three days when the ship had a hard time moving away from the dock on her own. The rest of their departure was uneventful; and, once the ship and the tug passed Menominee North Pier Lighthouse they parted ways: the Maineborg heading north up the bay of Green Bay, and the Jimmy L south down the bay and back home.

Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted Arrives on April 28 With More Pig Iron For Marinette Fuel & Dock

The vessel arrived around 1 a.m. with its third load of pig iron for Marinette Fuel & Dock for the 2011 - 2012 shipping season. I was invited to come aboard this unique vessel by one of the officers. I did not take many photos while aboard; I just wanted to "enjoy the moment" of being with a friend as he gave me a personal guided tour of the tug and the barge.

The barge is a former carferry, City of Midland 41, while the tug, Undaunted, is a former navy tug, USS Undaunted, which was built in 1943 (was not put into service until 1944). There is still a lot of original equipment which is no longer in use left over from the carferry below the main deck of the barge. My friendly guide quipped that they could "probably carry 500 extra tons of product if they ever removed the unused equipment" from the bowels of the barge. The deck equipment includes a crane, front-end loader, mobile conveyor, hopper (used when unloading using the conveyor, and more. Here is a more extensive list of the deck equipment in the words of my friendly "tour guide", "(a) crane (which) is a Hitachi EX 700 Excavator, but with the elevated cab and extended boom we call it a "material handler" with a 4.5 cu yd grapple (the attachment used today) a 3.5 cu yd clam bucket, (electro-)magnet, and a 3 yd grapple. Other equipment is a mobile conveyor, wheel loader, and a skid steer." The grapple used today was modified to hold up to 7 tons of material! Both the barge and the tug come equipped with bow-thrusters.

The tug is equipped with most of the comforts of home, including private rooms for each crewmember, a full galley (of course) ... which comes with a great cook!, a lounge with television (satellite tv), Internet access, a full laundry unit, bathroom facilities, etc. There are also the working spaces: a machine/fabricating room where almost anything that needs replacing is found (or can be made), the main engine room (it is kept very clean), and a modern pilothouse. The tug uses a "Bark River System" for mating the tug with the barge. My friend was kind enough to send me the technical data of the tug; this old mind of mine just ain't what it used to be! :O( ... Here it is, "The main engines themselves are Cleveland 278-As, built in 1943. They turn Allis-Chalmers generators, which send power to Allis-Chalmers propulsion motors. The two propulsion motors turn a reduction gear, which turns the shaft and the 12' propeller. In the wheelhouse we have two depth sounders, one at the bow of the barge and the other at the bow of the tug. We have an old chart plotter, a brand new ECDIS navigation system (a big flat screen display in front of the wheel stand). ECDIS stands for Electronic Chart Display Information System. A chart plotter on steroids. We also have a rudder order indicator (on the steering stand--what you want the rudder to do) and the rudder angle indicator (where the rudder actually is). Also have the shaft rpm indicator, multiple vhf radios, bow thruster controls and tachometers, two radars, wind speed and direction indicator. The tug's designation in the Navy was ATA-199. She has a twin at Selvick (Marine Towing of Sturgeon Bay, WI)--the Mary Page Hannah."

I want to thank Marinette Fuel & Dock Co. and the officers and crew of the Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted for their hospitality, and for this rare opportunity to see the inner workings of a Great Lakes' tug & barge. I boarded the vessel around 7:30 a.m., and didn't leave until almost 9 a.m.!! Thanks again everyone!!

The ship departed KK Integrated Logistics on Friday at 6 p.m.

They turned around shortly thereafter and headed back to their mooring at KK Integrated Logistics to wait for the wind and waves to die down.

BBC Arizona - The tug, Donald C, was not the only vessel to be affected by wind on May 14! The BBC Arizona went to anchor in the bay of Green Bay immediately upon arrival with KK Integrated Logistics' first load of wind turbine tower sections for 2011. This is an exact repeat of what happened to the first ship (BBC Rio Grande) carrying wind turbine tower sections to arrive last year (they entered port the next day).

Unfortunately, the decision was made to wait out in the bay for the winds to die down further (hopefully tomorrow). Unfortunately, the winds have picked up considerably in the past 4 hours since the attempt was made; we'll see what happens on Sunday!

BBC Arizona - Sunday didn't turn out any better for the ship and crew as winds continued strong throughout the day, and tomorrow doesn't look all that good either!

BBC Arizona Finally Makes Port

On May 17, the BBC Arizona made two attempts to enter port with its load of wind turbine tower sections for KK Integrated Logistics. At daybreak I was out on Government Pier in Marinette as the tugs, Jimmy L and William C. Selvick, headed out into the bay of Green Bay to assist the cargo ship into port. Lines were passed and the "tow" was begun. The tow was not destined to get any further than Menominee North Pier Lighthouse. As the tugs and ship passed the lighthouse, weather factored into a decision to proceed no further. The William C. Selvick, at the bow of the ship which was being led stern-first into the Menominee River, led the ship back out into the bay of Green Bay before retrieving its line and heading back into port along with the Jimmy L.

In the meantime, the tug, Donald C, and its two loaded rock barges prepared to depart KK Integrated Logistics with a load of the larger rocks for the Chicago marina project. They were able to make it out into the bay and be on their way to Chicago.

Around 3:30 p.m., another attempt was made to bring the BBC Arizona into port. This time they were successful! After spending about 78 hours out in the bay of Green Bay at anchor, the BBC Arizona was finally made fast to its dock at KK integrated Logistics. Unloading will begin on Wednesday, and is expected to take two days to unload.

Lake Trader/John M. Selvick Deliver Pig Iron To Marinette Fuel & Dock On May 30

The barge, Lake Trader, pushed by the 113-year-old tug, John M. Selvick, arrived at Marinette Fuel & Dock with a load of pig iron around 6:30 p.m. on Memorial Day. The pair came up from Green Bay, Wisconsin battling heavy fog for much of the trip. This is the first time that I have seen a deck barge being unloaded by the craneship, William H. Donner.

BBC Arizona - The ship arrived off Menominee on a hazy, windy day with another load of wind turbine towers for KK Integrated Logistics on May 31. As had happened on its first trip here, high winds forced the ship to anchor out in the bay of Green Bay. On that trip, the ship spent nearly 80 hours out in the bay before reaching KK Integrated Logistics' dock; let's hope it isn't that long this trip.

KK Integrated Logistics Loads Wind Turbine Towers Onto Rail Cars On June 17

Some of you may have seen wind turbine tower sections heading north through Marinette by truck recently. These tower sections are manufactured by Tower Tech Systems, Inc. in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and then trucked to a holding facility in Michicot, Wisconsin. From there, they are then transported to KK Integrated Logistics in Menominee where they will be loaded onto specially equipped rail cars for shipment to a project in Kansas.

More Photos Of The Project From June 18

I went back to KK integrated Logistics today in hope of getting some more detailed photos. I found out that the rail cars are actually "articulated" cars which are connected in pairs. Another slideshow follows showing today's activity. I want to again thank KK Integrated Logistics for the opportunity to photograph these fascinating (at least for me) events!!

Three Ships In Port On June 29

Wednesday morning started out with two ships ready to enter port. First up was the BBC Arizona with a load of wind turbine tower sections destined for KK Integrated Logistics. The ship was assisted into port stern-first under the care of the Selvick tugs, Jimmy L and William C. Selvick. Right behind the BBC Arizona was the Algoway carrying a load of salt for Marinette Fuel & Dock. This was the dock's second load of salt this year. Several hours behind the Algoway was fleetmate, Canadian Transfer, also carrying a load of salt.

Busy Days At KK Integrated Logistics On Aug. 8 & 9

The tug, Donald C, and two empty barges arrived at KK Integrated Logistics on Monday, Aug. 8, to pick up more rock for the Chicago marina project. Meanwhile, the Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted, was unloading pig iron at Marinette Fuel & Dock. Later that evening, when the Pere Marquette 41 finished unloading, they turned around and backed through the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge up-river to KK Integrated Logistics to also load rocks for the same project. By 8:30 the next morning the Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted was loaded and ready to go. Fortunately, the barges pushed by the Donald C were here to load the larger rocks (up to 20 tons each) which are loaded at KK Integrated Logistics West Dock, whereas the Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted were here to pick up the smaller rock (still several tons each), which are loaded at a different dock at KK Integrated Logistics; so, both vessels were able to load without getting in each other's way. One of the Donald C's barges did finish loading while the Pere Marquette was still there, so, the Donald C pushed that barge down-river to the KK Integrated Logistics East Dock to drop off that barge while the second barge was moved up to KK West to continue loading. By mid-afternoon, the Donald C's barges were both loaded, and the tug moved the second barge down to the KK East Dock to tie up with the first barge as they prepared for their departure. Unfortunately, by that point in the afternoon a strong wind had picked up and the tug and its two barges remained at the dock into the night, and will depart once the wind dies down. While all this was going on Tuesday morning at KK Integrated Logistics, the Catherine Desgagnes slipped into port with another load of pig iron for Marinette Fuel & Dock.

Adriaticborg Arrives At KK Integrated Logistics On August 20 With A Load of Windmill Blades

The nearly-new ship was built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co. of Shanghai. It was launched on Dec. 3, 2010 and was delivered to Royal Wagenborg Shipping on March 8, 2011. The vessel is 469.16 feet long by 70.538 wide, measures 137.795 feet from the waterline to its highest point (airdraft), weighs in at 17,323 DWT (Dead Weight Tons - how much total weight (cargo, fuel, provisions, fresh water, ballast water, passengers and crew, etc. it can safely carry), is classed as a 1A ice-class multi-purpose ship, and carries three 60-ton cranes.

Barge - A second barge loads the smaller rocks for the Chicago marina project

Adriaticborg - The ship departed KK Integrated Logistics around 7 p.m. Aug. 23 with a storm brewing and a west wind, which pushed against the ship's high sides, making for a bit of a tricky line-up for the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge
Adriaticborg - The tug, Jimmy L, leads the ship stern-first past the Viking I as they head for the bridge
Adriaticborg - The channel does not run straight through the draw bridge, so some jockeying is needed; something this tug has handled before!

Rock Barges - Well, all 4 barges are loaded and ready to go on Aug. 27, but, the winds on Lake Michigan are still keeping the lake stirred up; so the tugs and barges are being held in port at KK Integrated Logistics until the winds die down. Here is a view of the 4 rock barges and 3 tugs: (L to R) Buckley, Donald C, and the Selvick tug, Jimmy L (which is still here after assisting the Adriaticborg out of the river on Tuesday).

Adriaticborg Finally Arrives At KK Integrated Logistics On Sept. 6

After arriving in the bay off Menominee with a load of wind turbine tower sections for KK Integrated Logistics on Sunday (Sept. 4), the ship was forced to go to anchor due to high winds. On Labor Day morning, they attempted to enter port with the assistance of the tug, Jimmy L, but were stopped in the inner harbor by the wind; so, they went back out to anchor out in the bay for the rest of the day. Finally, on Tuesday morning they were successful in heading into port stern-first this time (they had come in bow-first on their last trip in here) with the Selvick tug, Jimmy L, leading the way.

Also in port was the tug, Buckley, with two loaded rock barges. They are being held in port due to rough weather on Lake Michigan, which is expected to last through Sunday. Later that night, the tug, Zeus, arrived at KK Integrated Logistics. The Zeus will take the two rock barges down the lake, as they are better equipped to do so due to their larger size. Since they arrived after dark, I decided to wait until tomorrow morning to go get some photos of this tug, which usually pushes a tanker barge, Robert F. Deegan, that generally carries calcium chloride around the lakes. It is my understanding that the barge is in dry-dock, thus freeing up the Zeus for this run.

USS Fort Worth Begins Sea Trials On Sept. 28

The USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) departed its dock at Marinette Marine for the first time today. The Selvick tugs Jimmy L and Jacqueline Nicole assisted the Navy's newest ship away from its dock at Marinette Marine around 10 a.m. and proceeded to lead the ship through the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge and out into the bay of Green Bay. The USS Fort Worth is due to return to Marinette Marine late tomorrow afternoon.

7 PM UPDATE:The USS Fort Worth surprised nearly everyone when they headed back into port tonight around 6:45 p.m. There were no supporting craft around, and no tugs were used to get through the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge, both scenarios that are highly unusual. Once through the bridge, the tugs followed the USS Fort Worth up-river to the turning basin and assisted the ship in its turn and escorted it stern-first back to its dock at Marinette Marine.

Moezelborg In Menominee On Oct. 10 & 11

The ship arrived in Menominee on Oct. 9 to load pulp at KK Integrated Logistics. They departed later that day to go out into the bay of Green Bay to dump their ballast water, as the Wagenborg ships usually do on these trips. I arrived back in Menominee on Oct. 10 after spending the previous 6 days up at the Soo Locks (Sault Ste. Marie, MI) and caught a quick photo of the ship late in the afternoon; then, I went back down on Tuesday Oct. 11 and took some photos of them loading in the morning and departing later that day.

Departing turned out to be a bit of an adventure for the ship. When they tried to move away for the dock, they found themselves stuck fast in the mud on the river bottom at the dock. After trying several times to get the ship to budge, they gave up and called for the tug. The Selvick tugs, Jimmy L and Jacqueline Nicole, were both at the KK Integrated Logistics dock; the only problem was that the crews were in Sturgeon Bay, WI (close to a 2 hour drive). The tug crew of the Jimmy L arrived before 6 p.m. and began warming up the tug's engines (it takes 30 - 45 minutes). Meanwhile, the ship decided to try again to "wiggle" its way away from the dock. First they got the bow off the dock using the bow-thrusters. Next, they were able to get the stern away from the dock just a bit. They then continued to move the bow out and stern in, then the stern out and they were free! The ship thanked the guys on the tug and were able to depart under their own power, passing through the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge around 6:30 p.m.

Donald C's barge - The tug arrived at KK Integrated Logistics early morning on Dec. 1 with just 1 barge; after dropping this one off, they headed back out to pick up another barge. This may be due to the fact that one of their barges broke free from the tug on Nov. 25 in rough weather off Sheboygan, WI. The barge grounded, and was later freed.

BBC Naples Loads Specialty Tanks On Dec. 16

After arriving mid-morning on Dec. 16, the BBC Naples wasted little time before they began loading. First to be loaded were massive rectangular shaped tank-type containers. The tanks are manufactured by ECC Corrosion, Inc. in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. The three largest tanks were brought in here aboard a barge pushed by the Gregory J. Busch on Dec. 10. These tanks were to be loaded first, then other smaller cylindrical tanks will follow.

BBC Naples - A view from the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge on Sunday Dec. 18 as loading winds down
Marinette Fuel & Dock - A view of the dock from the bridge; all the piles (pig iron, salt, limestone, and more) seem nicely filled
Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted - Arrived Marinette Fuel & Dock with more pig iron on the night of Dec. 19

Rock barge - This barge was dropped off by the tug Zeus, which then departed, on Dec. 21 ; it is shown here at KK Integrated Logistics East Dock, loaded, on Dec. 22
Gregory J. Busch - Stern view of the tug which arrived at KK Integrated Logistics to pick up a load of rocks on Dec. 22
Front-end loader - Bringing a load of the smaller rocks (still several tons each), to the dock where the Busch's barge is waiting
Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted - Bow view after backing through the Ogden Street Bridge on the night of Dec. 22 heading for KK Integrated Logistics to pick up a load of rock (the photo is a little dark, as I didn't have my normal nighttime camera (Olympus C-768) with me)

Gregory J. Busch - On Dec. 24, the tug and its barge loaded with rocks is still at KK Integrated Logistics (tug, Snohomish) in background). Earlier this morning, the tug, Nickelena, brought in an empty (rock) barge, and then took the barge loaded with rocks in tow that the tug, Zeus, had dropped off earlier in the week.
Gregory J. Busch - Close-up of the tug
2 Tugs - The tug, Zeus, arrived at KK Integrated Logistics around noon on Dec. 29. They proceeded to break a track in the ice all the way up to the KK West Dock (tug, Gregory Busch, turning around with its loaded barge in the background happy to finally get out of here after waiting a week due to high winds (again))

Zeus - Heading back down the Menominee River after breaking the track
Gregory J. Busch - Still attempting to turn its barge in a field of ice
Zeus - The tug had just tied up when they were called to assist the Gregory J. Busch
2 Tugs - The Zeus (on the bow) pushes the bow of the barge around while the Gregory J. Busch is at its normal place on the stern
Gregory J. Busch - Close-up of the tug at the stern of the barge

Zeus - The tug continues to push the bow of the Busch's barge around
2 Tugs - Both tugs work well together to get the barge turned through the ice
2 Tugs - The tugs get the barge coming around nicely
Gregory J. Busch - Heads down the river pushing its barge while the tug Zeus follows after a job well done!!
Gregory J. Busch - Broadside view of the tug and its barge loaded with the large rocks for a Chicago marina project

2 Tugs - The Gregory J. Busch and its barge head for the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge while the Zeus heads back to its dock before departing with one loaded rock barge. It appears as if the one remaining barge should hold all of the large rocks still on the dock at KK Integrated Logistics. All that remains to be seen is which tug will come to pick up that barge, and when.
Wind turbine tower - Elsewhere on the KK Integrated Logistics property, a truck prepares to pull out with a tower section along with its escorts on Dec. 29
Rock Barge - The final rock barge is now loaded on Dec. 31; all that remains is to see which tug comes to pick it up, and when. The area in front and in back of the crane was filled with the larger rocks just a week ago!
Rock Barge - Close-up of the loaded barge which should wrap up this marina project job with a total tonnage of well over 250,000 tons shipped from KK Integrated Logistics over the past 16 months!
