Salt Pile - The bulldozer pushes a pile of salt all the way to the opposite end of the pile
Donald C & Barge - Role reversal? Is the Donald C actually delivering rock to KK Integrated Logistics? NO!! The two loaders are actually cleaning out the rock left over from a previous load.
Loaders - The smaller loader drops rocks into the scoop of a front-end loader
Donald C - Bow view of the tug near the KK East Dock, as the Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted is still loading in the spot which will be taken over by the Donald C and one of its 2 barges once they are loaded.

Sjard - Almost through the bridge with the Viking I to the left
Rock Barge - Meanwhile, the Mantsinen crane was loading the smaller rocks onto one of the tug Donald C's barges ...
Mantsinen crane - ... When I noticed a big tire in the water, which had come loose as a buffer at the dock, and called over some of the dock workers, who then contacted the crane operator to come and retrieve it, as it was right in the area where the Sjard would dock
Sjard - The bridge closes as the ship is safely throught it (tug, Zeus, in background)
Mantsinen crane - The crane grabs hold of the floating tire and lifts it ashore, out of harm's way
Sjard - The Jimmy L leads the ship stern-first up-river toward the KK Integrated Logistics' East Dock
Jimmy L - The tug prepares to drop the stern line to the ship

Donald C - One of the tug's barges loaded with the larger rocks on Nov. 15
Donald C - A crewmember checks the depth of that barge with a tape measure (the barge has load lines" (usually) painted in one foot intervals; but with the barge tight against the dock, those lines evidently could not be seen)
Donald C - An empty barge waits its turn to be loaded (with the Pere Marquette getting ready to head to KK Integrated Logistics, this barge is far enough down-river to make room for that vessel)
Donald C - Stern view of the tug at the dock
Donald C - Bow-view of the tug with the old carferry, Viking I, in the background
Donald C - A look at the opposite end of the empty barge

Metsaborg - Bow-view heading in toward the KK Integrated Logistics East Dock
Metsaborg - Stern-view as lines are about to be thrown ashore from the ship
Metsaborg - Stern-view tied up and ready to start loading
Donald C's barge - The tug arrived at KK Integrated Logistics early morning on Dec. 1 with just 1 barge; after dropping this one off, they headed back out to pick up another barge. This may be due to the fact that one of their barges broke free from the tug on Nov. 25 in rough weather off Sheboygan, WI. The barge grounded, and was later freed.

Metsaborg - Broadside view - notice that all of the hatch covers are in place aboard the ship - when loading pulp, moisture in the holds of the ship must be kept to a bare minimum; preferably there will be no moisture. Once the rain lets up, loading can begin again.

Metsaborg - ... so that a dock worker can release the line ...
Metsaborg - ... the line is then winched back onto the ship
Metsaborg - Stern view as the ship heads for the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge and out to the bay
Donald C - Meanwhile, the tug and its two barges loaded with rock wait at the KK Integrated Logistics dock held in port by ... you guessed it ... wind. This has been a recurring problem for the past couple months for the tugs; however, the larger tug, Zeus, and two empty barges was able to enter port and arrive at the dock to load more rock late that afternoon after a "bumpy" trip.

BBC Naples Loads Specialty Tanks On Dec. 16
After arriving mid-morning on Dec. 16, the BBC Naples wasted little time before they began loading. First to be loaded were massive rectangular shaped tank-type containers. The tanks are manufactured by ECC Corrosion, Inc. in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. The three largest tanks were brought in here aboard a barge pushed by the Gregory J. Busch on Dec. 10. These tanks were to be loaded first, then other smaller cylindrical tanks will follow.

Pere Marquette 41/Undaunted - Bow view after backing through the Ogden Street Bridge on the night of Dec. 22 heading for KK Integrated Logistics to pick up a load of rock (the photo is a little dark, as I didn't have my normal nighttime camera (Olympus C-768) with me)
Gregory J. Busch - On Dec. 24, the tug and its barge loaded with rocks is still at KK Integrated Logistics (tug, Snohomish) in background). Earlier this morning, the tug, Nickelena, brought in an empty (rock) barge, and then took the barge loaded with rocks in tow that the tug, Zeus, had dropped off earlier in the week.
Gregory J. Busch - Close-up of the tug
2 Tugs - The tug, Zeus, arrived at KK Integrated Logistics around noon on Dec. 29. They proceeded to break a track in the ice all the way up to the KK West Dock (tug, Gregory Busch, turning around with its loaded barge in the background happy to finally get out of here after waiting a week due to high winds (again))

2 Tugs - The Gregory J. Busch and its barge head for the Ogden Street (Menekaunee) Bridge while the Zeus heads back to its dock before departing with one loaded rock barge. It appears as if the one remaining barge should hold all of the large rocks still on the dock at KK Integrated Logistics. All that remains to be seen is which tug will come to pick up that barge, and when.
Wind turbine tower - Elsewhere on the KK Integrated Logistics property, a truck prepares to pull out with a tower section along with its escorts on Dec. 29
Rock Barge - The final rock barge is now loaded on Dec. 31; all that remains is to see which tug comes to pick it up, and when. The area in front and in back of the crane was filled with the larger rocks just a week ago!
Rock Barge - Close-up of the loaded barge which should wrap up this marina project job with a total tonnage of well over 250,000 tons shipped from KK Integrated Logistics over the past 16 months!
Total Vessel Breakdown For 2011
31 - Commercial Vessels Delivering or Picking Up Goods (not including the Pere Marquette 41)
